Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of 3 months practice of Surya Namaskar on Oxygen Saturation and Vital Capacity on School going children. Thirty (30) male sedentary children of 14 to 16 years were selected as sample using Purposive Sampling method. To determine the effect of Surya Namaskar “One Group Pretest – Post test Design” was used. After conducting the Pre-test of Oxygen Saturation and Vital Capacity, Surya Namaskar practice was administered for 3 months and it was followed by the Post-test with the same dependent variables of Oxygen Saturation and Vital Capacity. To find out the significant differences between the Pre and Post test Means of Oxygen Saturation and Vital Capacity of the School going children dependent ‘t’ test was used. The findings revealed that there was significant difference in between Pre and Post test Means in the selected variable of Oxygen Saturation (t=4.77). It was also evident that there was significant difference between the Pre and Post test Means of Vital Capacity (t=5.03) of the School going children. In conclusion, the level of Oxygen Saturation and Vital Capacity of school going children have been increased followed by a regular 3 (three) months practice of Surya Namaskar.
