ASSESSMENT OF ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION OF WINNERS OF ALL INDIA INTERVARSITY HOCKEY WOMEN

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to assess the sports achievement motivation level of All India Intervarsity women Hockey players of University level, to understand the importance of sports achievement motivation in sports performance. Sixty subjects were selected for this study The study was conducted on those four university  teams which had qualified for the league matches by securing top position in  their own groups in the tournament and they were termed as 'winners'  for  the purpose  of  this  study. The criterion measures adopted for this study were the "Sports Achievement Motivation Test" developed  and standardized  by Dr. M.L. Kamlesh was selected for this study. To analyze the data, mean and standard deviation was used. The team, which had the highest achievement motivation level among these four teams, have secured their positions accordingly. Sports Achievement Motivation level was found higher among winner women hockey players of All India Intervarsity Hockey Championship and Higher Achievement Motivation level is supposed to be a good  sign for better performance in hockey.
